What an emergency no-heat call involves
We start by confirming what the system is actually doing. Does the thermostat call for heat and nothing responds, or does the burner light and shut down a minute later? That difference points us in two very different directions. We check power at the equipment, the control board and its fault codes, the safety switches, and the airflow path. On heat pumps we look at the reversing valve, defrost control and auxiliary heat. The goal on the first visit is heat back on, then a straight explanation of why it quit.
What we check and what we replace
Common no-heat causes we find in this region include failed igniters and flame sensors, cracked or blocked pressure switch tubing, bad inducer motors, tripped limit switches from a filter nobody changed, and blower motors or capacitors that have given out. On heat pumps it is often a contactor, a defrost board or a low refrigerant charge showing up as weak heat. We carry the parts that fail most and replace them on site when we can. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you that day and talk through safe temporary heat.
How we decide repair is the right call
We look at what failed, what else is close to failing, and how the system has been running. A single igniter on an otherwise sound furnace is an easy repair. Repeated lockouts, a heat exchanger concern, or a heat pump that has needed refrigerant more than once are different conversations. If we find a cracked heat exchanger or any combustion safety issue, we shut it down and say so plainly, because carbon monoxide is not something to work around. You get the findings and the options, and you decide.

My furnace tries to start then shuts off. Is that an emergency?
It is worth a same-day call. Repeated ignition attempts and lockouts usually mean a safety device is doing its job. Check your filter first, then call us rather than resetting the system over and over.
Should I use space heaters until you arrive?
If you do, keep them away from bedding, curtains and furniture, plug them straight into a wall outlet, and never leave one running while asleep. Never use a gas range or grill to heat a room.
What if my heat pump is blowing cool air in winter?
That can be normal during a defrost cycle, which lasts a few minutes. If cool air keeps coming or the outdoor unit is iced over, shut the system off at the thermostat and call us.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call or fill out the quote form and describe what the system is doing. Warm air, short cycling, water on the floor, a smell, a noise. That detail tells us what parts to load on the truck.
- Step 2
We diagnose on site
A technician checks the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow through the filter and coil, refrigerant behaviour and the ductwork. You hear what we found in plain language before anything gets replaced or repaired.
- Step 3
You approve the fix
We explain the repair, what it costs and what happens if you wait a season. Nothing gets done without your go-ahead, and we tell you honestly when a repair no longer makes sense.

Why homeowners call us
- We know humid-climate systemsAcross the region the real enemy is moisture. Systems here run long hours pulling water out of the air, and that shows up as frozen coils, clogged drains and mildew smells. We diagnose for humidity, not just temperature.
- Mixed gas and heat pump workPlenty of homes we visit run a heat pump with gas backup, and the two have to hand off cleanly. We troubleshoot both sides, including defrost boards, reversing valves, ignitors and heat exchanger concerns.
- Attic ductwork is our daily breadMid-century homes often have ducts running through attics that hit brutal temperatures. Crushed runs, disconnected boots and leaking joints steal cooling before it reaches the room. We find them instead of blaming the equipment.
- Repair before replaceA capacitor, a contactor, a blower motor or a clogged drain line fixes a lot of the calls we take. We would rather fix what you have and tell you plainly when the numbers stop working.
