Refrigerant Leak Repair

We find and repair refrigerant leaks in home air conditioning systems across Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. You need this job when your AC runs and runs but the house never cools, the air from the vents feels lukewarm, ice shows up on the indoor coil or the outdoor line, or a system that was charged last summer is low again. Turn the system off so the coil can thaw, check that your filter is clean, and call us to schedule a leak search.

What a refrigerant leak repair involves

Refrigerant does not get used up, so a low system means it is escaping somewhere. We start by measuring pressures and temperatures to confirm the charge is actually low rather than an airflow problem imitating one. Then we search for the leak with electronic detection, and where needed nitrogen pressure testing or dye. Once we find it we talk through the repair, make it, pull a deep vacuum to clear moisture and air, and weigh in the correct charge for that system. Refrigerant work is handled by our technicians only.

What we check and what we replace

Common leak points in the homes we work in are evaporator coils, brazed joints, service valves, Schrader cores, and the line set where it passes through a hot attic or rubs on a strap. We check the indoor coil for formicary corrosion, the outdoor coil for wear and impact damage, and the connections at both ends of the line set. Depending on what we find we replace a core or valve, re-braze a joint, replace a section of line, or quote a coil.

How we decide repair is the right call

We weigh where the leak is, how much refrigerant the system holds, and what refrigerant it uses. A leaking Schrader core or a joint we can reach is a straightforward fix. A pinholed evaporator coil on an older system that uses a phased-out refrigerant is a different conversation, and we lay out the coil replacement against replacing the system so you can choose. What we will not do is keep topping off a system that dumps its charge every season. That wastes your money and the leak stays.

Refrigerant Leak Repair — quick answers

Can you just add refrigerant instead of finding the leak?

We can get you cooling again, but a system that is low has a leak, and adding refrigerant without repairing it means you are paying for the same charge next season. We would rather find the leak first.

How long does a leak search take?

Most searches run one to two hours depending on how much of the line set is accessible and whether the leak is small enough to need nitrogen testing. Attic runs and buried line sets take longer to reach.

Is a refrigerant leak dangerous in my house?

Refrigerant in the small amounts a home system holds is not typically a health hazard, but never handle it yourself. Leaks are under high pressure and can cause frostbite injuries. Shut the system down and call us.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill out the quote form and describe what the system is doing. Warm air, short cycling, water on the floor, a smell, a noise. That detail tells us what parts to load on the truck.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow through the filter and coil, refrigerant behaviour and the ductwork. You hear what we found in plain language before anything gets replaced or repaired.

  3. Step 3

    You approve the fix

We explain the repair, what it costs and what happens if you wait a season. Nothing gets done without your go-ahead, and we tell you honestly when a repair no longer makes sense.

Why homeowners call us

  • We know humid-climate systemsAcross the region the real enemy is moisture. Systems here run long hours pulling water out of the air, and that shows up as frozen coils, clogged drains and mildew smells. We diagnose for humidity, not just temperature.
  • Mixed gas and heat pump workPlenty of homes we visit run a heat pump with gas backup, and the two have to hand off cleanly. We troubleshoot both sides, including defrost boards, reversing valves, ignitors and heat exchanger concerns.
  • Attic ductwork is our daily breadMid-century homes often have ducts running through attics that hit brutal temperatures. Crushed runs, disconnected boots and leaking joints steal cooling before it reaches the room. We find them instead of blaming the equipment.
  • Repair before replaceA capacitor, a contactor, a blower motor or a clogged drain line fixes a lot of the calls we take. We would rather fix what you have and tell you plainly when the numbers stop working.
  • All major brands, gas & electricFrom Carrier and Trane to Lennox, Goodman, Rheem and Bryant, serviced independently.
  • Straight answersNot worth fixing? We say that out loud, and often it saves you the visit fee.
